I hope you all are getting into the spirit this month. No matter what we celebrate, we all should remember just how important it is to do what we can for those in need. That is our motto as superheroes, and today I will share with you a few super things you can do to help others:
1. Donate to a local food pantry
Canned food and nonperishable treats are all items we should have in case of an emergency. They are also items that we can donate to local food pantries in our neighborhoods. Look out for the boxes that accepts canned food in your school, library and neighborhood center. Some foods to donate are:
o Canned fruits and vegetables
o Canned tuna fish
o Peanut butter
o Rice and pasta
2. Donate an old coat to New York Cares
In the cold winters, we all know how important it is to stay warm. If you have an old coat that you wore last winter and grew out of, there is a great organization that will accept them! Talk to your parent or guardian about donating a coat to New York Cares, a great organization that helps New York City residents. You can find a drop off site near you here.
3. Read to Others
One of my favorite things to do is read, so why not share the love of stories and books to others? There are many places throughout the city that can use some super readers like you. Visit a senior center, read to a neighbor or younger friend. One of my favorite things to read to my neighbors is the Choose Your Own Path to Preparedness stories. At this time of year, Inside the White Out is a great adventure to learn about.
What do you like to do to help others? Write it below! Don’t forget that all it takes is a box in your school that can help others.
We can all be superheroes this season!
